Design for Home Energy Efficiency
You might know how much you spend on electricity each month, but do you know which appliances use the most (or least) electricity each month? Bidgely’s core technology, disaggregation -provides an appliance-level energy consumption breakdown that provides personalized energy usage insights to both electricity and gas customers. Bidgely’s products required an omnichannel design, suitable for distribution via SMS, email, mobile app, web, and/or print. This required a consistent design approach across all products to maximize user comprehension, usefulness, and engagement.
Featured here are several product emails which are sent at particular points in the energy billing cycle as well as emails triggered by unusually high consumption or a projected higher energy bill. Also included is a printed monthly energy report sent with the user’s monthly energy bill.
Monthly Summary Email
This email provided a comprehensive and quick view of electricity use after the billing cycle, comparing current usage to that of last year and the average over the past year. It included detailed information about appliance energy usage and offered practical energy-saving tips to help reduce consumption.
Bill Projection Email
This email provided the user with an opportunity to proactively avoid a high electric bill before the end of the current billing cycle. It also included a range of energy-saving tips that were directly related to the highest usage categories.
Neighborhood Comparison Email
This email provides a comparison of the user’s energy consumption with their immediate neighbors. An illustrated character was developed to convey the user’s level of energy efficiency (“Great,” “Good,” and “Fair”) based on positive feedback from design user testing.
High Usage Email
This email was sent whenever there is an abnormally high consumption day compared to average. It was another proactive measure to help users avoid high monthly electric bills.
Home Energy Report (Front)
Mailed with utility bills, the printed Home Energy Report provided the same insights as the energy-related emails in a single two sided printed report.
Home Energy Report (Back)
The back of the report provided a 12 month energy usage chart, FAQs, and a “Go Digital” promotional block..
